About Us
Central Virginia Housing started in August of 1988 when a group of resolute individuals decided there was a need for a fund to help those that were residing in hotels/motels and struggling financially and could not save enough money to get the security deposit they needed to rent a permanent house or apartment. For 35 years Central Virginia Housing has been dedicated to the mission of affordable housing.

Currently Central Virginia Housing department administers almost 2000 vouchers and employs 11 HCVP full time Agents and three full time HQS inspectors. In 2021 we took over more vouchers in Fauquier County & the City of Culpeper. We opened our Remington office on a full-time basis with two Housing Agents.
Key Central Virginia Housing Property Projects
Central Virginia Housing purchased an old apartment building at the corner of Dixon and Charles Street–Colonial Heights Apartments in downtown Fredericksburg. The scope of the project was a renovation of the existing apartment building, and new construction to add additional affordable apartment capacity. Due to the renovation and construction five of the apartments are now ADA accessible units. There is a total of fourteen units offered at below market rent. As a Tax Credit project combining renovation/new construction, this was made possible with a construction loan through PNC Bank and permanent financing through VH and DHCD. Virginia Community Development Corporation (VCDC) assisted with the Tax Credit portion of the process.
